I had a great time building the borderlands environment in black panther under the supervision of Kevin George and Dan Mayer on Marvel's BlackPanther at ILM. This was almost a 270 wide 3d environment which had to work in different camera angles in the sequence. I had to create the initial style frames using some of the scans they captured of some of the mountains in Africa. Once they selected one of the versions, I started doing the rough texture and started laying out the vegetation matching the plate. The hut models were done by the modeling team and I just did some quick textures on them to match it to the ones in plate. I also added the max crowd in the scene which kind of went to the final in most of these shots. I did a matte painting for the extreme background mountains and sky and cloudsas it was faster to do in 2d.
