I finally got some time last weekend to finish one of my old artworks. I have always been fascinated with the dimension of Vaikuntha which is mentioned in Ancient Indian wisdom traditions. This artwork focuses on the Gates of Vaikuntha, which a soul needs to cross in order to reach that Dimension of Vaikuntha/Heaven. I decided to create my humble interpretation of it. I got inspiration from old Indian temples and the intricate carvings on them but at the same time I tried to give it a sci-fi feel. As it is a spiritual realm, I wanted to keep the look a bit dreamy. Hence I decided to show it hidden in sky amongst clouds, giving it that dreamy feel
PHILOSOPHY AND CONCEPT :
The Seven Gates of Vaikuntha refer to the symbolic entrances to Lord Vishnu's celestial abode aka "Vaikuntha", guarded by figures like Jaya and Vijaya (shown in the painting as entrance guards) , representing spiritual barriers to liberation (Moksha) that devotees overcome through devotion, purity, and adherence to dharma. These gates symbolize stages of spiritual awakening, sometimes linked to the seven major chakras, signifying a journey beyond material existence to eternal bliss. So it can basically be interpreted as a inner journey than an actual physical path.
